Introduction
From March 12 to 14, 2024, Duxford College for Advanced Studies (DC) and Duxford International Business School (DIBS) hosted a three-day Professional Learning Community (PLC) Inauguration & Workshop at Duxford Edupark, Malappuram. The event, organized by the Faculty Development Cell and IQAC, aimed to foster collaboration among educators and explore reforms in higher education. The focus was on practical strategies to enhance teaching, curriculum development, and assessment practices.
The workshop began with a welcome speech by Fareed Rahmani, MD & CEO of Duxford Edupark. He stressed the role of PLCs in improving teaching and learning outcomes.
Mr. Muhammed Nuhman A P followed with a presentation on the PLC: Concept & Implication, explaining how these communities enhance collaboration among educators. His talk covered practical steps to implement PLCs in educational institutions.
Next, Dr. Thoufeeque Rahman K discussed the Curricular Reforms Commission for Higher Education, specifically focusing on Chapter 4 of the reform guidelines. He highlighted key recommendations, stressing the need for curricula to meet current industry demands.
On the second day, Ms. N.T. Amritha Kumaran, Head of Commerce at Duxford College, introduced the New FYCUCP Framework. She explained how this framework revitalizes undergraduate programs by making them more industry-relevant and skills-focused.
Dr. Shamal Sheikh, Assistant Professor at DIBS, then spoke about Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Guidelines. He emphasized that OBE focuses on measurable student performance and ensures alignment between academic programs and market requirements.
On the final day, Dr. Suhail Palakkod, Dean of Academics at DIBS, shared his insights on Examination Reforms in Universities and Higher Education. He talked about modernizing examination systems to ensure fairness and enhance student assessments.
The event concluded with Dr. T Muhammedali leading the Action Plan and Feedback session. This interactive discussion allowed participants to share key insights and develop strategies for implementing the reforms discussed.
The PLC Inauguration & Workshop was a success. It provided valuable knowledge about curriculum reform, outcome-based education, and improved assessments. Through collaboration and dialogue, educators gained tools to foster positive change and innovation in their institutions. The action plans developed will guide future initiatives at Duxford Edupark and beyond.
